Class of 2012/2013
Mrs. Birchler was shopping at Warmbier Farms in September 2023 when she saw Sofia Gutierrez (am session). Sofia is still working at her grandmother's business (Warmbier Farms). Mrs. Birchler met Sofia's daughter Evie before they left to pick up Evie's big brother Jackson at school.
Mrs. Birchler saw Haley Kowalski (pm session) at Independent Bank in Essexville, on July 24, 2020. Bryce has determined that nurse anesthetist is no longer an interest but he may eventually return to school for a nurse practitioner degree.
Mrs. Birchler has been working on a scrapbook of her ten years of teaching. Here is a nice memory of the am session.
Email update fro,m Madison Zimmerman (pm session) on December 19, 2018: "I have been accepted into UofM Flint's DPT program!! I literally could not be more excited, as this has always been my number one PT school, and truly the only school I want to go! I just finished up my undergrad at Saginaw Valley, and I received my Bachelors Degree majoring in Exercise Science (the best major ever). I also bought a house this year! All exciting stuff"
Mrs. Birchler saw Hollie Hages (am session) while shopping at the Essexville Jack's before Thanksgiving 2018. Hollie is taking classes at Delta and plans to become a radiologic technician.
Email update from Darian Willett (am session) on June 7, 2018: " I got in to Central’s DPT program!! I want to thank you so much for preparing me so well and for being such a huge influence on my love for PT and the road to getting here. I appreciate you being a reference as I applied and for all of the amazing experiences you provided for me over the past 6 years. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am without the huge impact you’ve had on me. If everything goes as planned, I will be graduating in ~3 years."
Email update from Aubrey Mielens (am session) on June 7, 2018: "In December I will be graduating from CMU magna cum laude with my Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, with minors in Gerontology and Psychology. Before I can graduate though, I will be completing my clinical internship at HealthSource Saginaw in the fall. During my time there, I will gain experience working in long term care, memory care, skilled nursing, and inpatient rehab. Upon my graduation in December, I will sit for the national credentialing exam to become a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist). I am not seriously looking at the moment, but I am thinking about going to graduate school sometime in the future to pursue a higher education in the field of Recreational Therapy."
Another "it's a small world" connection: one of the candidates applying for the PT/OT instructor position is a distant relative to Jacqueline Habowski (am session). Jacqueline graduated from SVSU with her nursing degree. She initially worked at Covenant hospital and is now working at a skilled nursing facility.

May 2017 e-mail update from Lexie Jacobs (pm session): "I've been working at the Tervis Store in Frankenmuth for the past three years, and am still at Saginaw Valley and going into the OT program. I have two more years of undergraduate classes and some volunteer hours to log until I can apply to the masters program. I had a minor setback, because after a few health science courses unrelated to OT, I thought about changing my major to health science. I realized that my true passion is in the rehab world, and with watching people improve their lives, so I stuck with it. When I graduated high school, I was eager to become an OT in our local school system, and I wanted to focus on autism and learning disabilities. However, within the past year I have realized that my niche is in the mental health field, particularly with children and young adults. I am hoping to go into an inpatient setting. I have started my OT courses within the last year, also, and I am really enjoying them. A lot of what I learned at skill center has helped me in my foundations of OT class, and in some of the other courses I have taken as well. Oh, and I would so like to say thank you for helping us make portfolios! I learned that we will have to put together a portfolio when I am in the masters program, and I already have a jump start on it!. In the past year, I have also begun to learn American Sign Language. I took a course for it at SVSU, and I loved learning how to bridge the communication gap with someone who is deaf, hard of hearing or non verbal. I feel that learning to sign, and having prior knowledge of deaf culture can definitely improve clinician and client relationships."

Bryce plans to work in nursing for two years and then will be ready for training as a nurse-anesthetist.

Email update from Madison Zimmerman (pm session) on December 13, 2016: "I am still at Saginaw Valley, but switched my major to exercise science. I am 99% sure that I am doing Physical Therapy now, which is originally what I wanted to do but changed my mind a few times in the past 2 years. So I will be graduating in December of 2018, and should be starting PT school (crossing my fingers to get accepted somewhere) in the fall of 2019. I've always wanted to work with a certain population mostly being athletes. An option after PT school is to potentially go into the military as a Physical Therapist."
Update on Reid Robson (am session) on December 6, 2016: Reid transferred to MSU this fall and is working on a degree in Packaging Engineering.
Email update from Daecia VanWert (am session) to advise that she had a second surgery, lots of occupational therapy and is now back at CMU trying to get on track for graduation. Daecia worked at SpringHill camp this summer.
July 27, 2016 email update from Krislyn Rozek (am session): "I am still at Eastern counting the days until graduation! (HAHA) I am ready to be graduated and working in the field. I have been staying busy all summer with my job as a Nanny. Everyday since May my life has been eat, sleep, breath Neuroanatomy. I am taking Neuro at Eastern every Monday. I commute there as I am staying with my grandparents for the summer. So far I am very happy with my decision to take Neuro during the summer as I am exceeding goals! I am still on track to apply to Eastern's OT program next summer. Up next is studying for the GRE (no FUN!).
I will be moving back to school on August 12th and starting another year as a Resident Advisor in the freshman dorms. I also just accepted a position as a Barista at the Starbucks on campus."

Darian Willett (am session) assisted with HOSA classroom competition by moderating the HOSA Bowl quiz on December 16th. Darian met with the team afterwards and enjoyed reminiscing about her competition experiences. Darian didn't know that the national conference is back to Nashville this year - the same location as the national conference she was able to attend in 2013.

February 17, 2015 update from Nicole Schnettler (am session):
"I completed my first semester at Eastern Michigan and it has been a blast so far! I have made so many friends and have been having a great experience. I took 16 credit hours last semester and am also taking 16 for this winter semester. It was a bit much to jump right into but the adjustment went smoothly. However, my biology class was quite difficult. I also took an intro to occupational therapy class but that was a breeze with my prior knowledge from your class :) A couple days ago I was notified that I had made the Deans List for the fall semester and was invited to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars! I am so happy that I decided to attend EMU and couldn't imagine myself anywhere else!" Congratulations to Nicole!

And we thought he was just a hockey player! :-)
Email update from Kade Edsall (pm session) on December 2, 2014: "As far as chemistry goes I am not entirely sure that it is still what I am interested in. I am majorly considering changing my major to pre-ot come the end of next semester!" Kade is attending SVSU.
Email update from Dan Miller (pm) on November 24, 2014:
I currently am doing very well in all my classes accept my Human Physiology class. The body is just so incredible how many chemical and hormonal changes are occurring at every living second to make sure you stay alive and are able to function. I have decided that this past season would be the last I would compete at the collegiate level football. I had to decide this based on my future, after re injuring my thumb this season and a few other minor injuries I have decided that my health and ability to perform ADL is more important than becoming the All-American football player who has a bad shoulder, knee and cannot play with his kids and enjoy the rest of his life. I have officially claimed my major as Exercise Science and plan pursue strength and conditioning as well as nutrition. Hope all is well back on the east side (of the state).

He had a great summer internship with Dow Chemical. Kade and a few Career Center classmates (Talon, Kendra, Kelsey, and Rebekah) recently got together at BWW. He plans to be at the Alumni event after Memorial Day.
Email update from Dan Miller (pm session) in January 2014: "I just wanted to say thank you for all you do for your students. Taking anatomy this semester I realize I have a firm foundation from your class that has been very helpful. Without this basic knowledge and foundation I would still struggle tremendously with class as so much more detail is put into every body part, bone, system, and movement then we covered. I just wanted to say thanks again for all you do and the knowledge you have shared with not only me but all your students! My biggest regret looking back at my senior year is how much I slacked off and just did the absolute minimum to get by. Football went well (at Hope College). I started 9th on the depth chart and worked hard earning the second string spot and the privilege to travel as a back up to the starter. That week I tore my abductor and flexor pollicis brevis in my right thumb and unfortunately ended my season early, but now I am almost at full range of motion and about 65% strength. As for my personal trainer certification I passed with a overall 88% and am currently in the process of getting a job in a local gym in Holland."
Krislyn Rozek (am) came in December 2013 to meet with the two HOSA Bowl teams for this year. She had lots of tips for them and shared the "Pink Panther" worksheets and study flashcards. Krislyn has a co-op position in the employee health office at SC Johnson and loves it.
Aubrey Mielens (am) stopped by a few days after Krislyn. Aubrey has a co-op position at Center for Rehab but we missed seeing her when we went on our annual field trip because she works at the West Medical Mall on Tuesday afternoons.

August 2013 e-mail update from Kelsey Gedraitis (pm): Kelsey has been volunteering at Bridgeport Sport and Spine and has about 75 volunteer hours already. Kelsey will be returning to the Career Center as a Health Tech student this fall.
July 2013 e-mail update from Lexie Jacobs (pm): "I have gotten to use my first aid certification a few times over the summer, and it was one of the best things to be able to help people in an emergency. I am using my skills that I learned in class to apply for a position as a Medical Scribe at Saginaw Valley Bone and Joint. I'm excited to apply for it, because it utilizes my medical terminology and A&P skills. I am starting SVSU in the fall, and I am planning on volunteering with a friends' mom, who informed me at my grad party that she is an OT and would gladly help me with my volunteer hours :)"
July 2013 e-mail update from Dan Miller (pm session - "Dantheman"): Dan is completing a personal trainer course through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA). He says he is working 35 hours a week and doing a football workout for Hope College 2-3 hours daily so he is pretty busy. He also reports that he bought a new car.
